JPS meets at the Park Lane Clinic (corner Junction Ave and Parklane, Parktown. GPS: 26.10.54.04S 28.2.45.64E.). We have access to their medical lecturing rooms which have all the mod-cons one expects from a venue of this nature.
There is safe parking at the Park Lane Clinic, behind the boom. Enter the front entrance of the building and walk down the long passage to the south. Walk up 2 flights or take the lift to the 2nd floor. Turn left and you are there.
We ask for a donation of R10 per person to cover the cost of tea and cakes.
There are two meetings every month (except during the festive season) on the first and third Tuesday. We try to start at 19:30 and usually end at about 22:00 if all goes well.
The first meeting of the month (1st Tuesday) is a “Judging Meeting” where projected images are judged and scored, normally by an external judge. A monthly “Set Subject” is also judged. These scores are accumulated for each member to determine advancement within the club through the categories of Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Beret. Additionally, the previous month’s digital images are categorized into “Nature” and “Pictorial” and are judged to determine an overall winner of the “Image of the Month”.
The second meeting of the month (3rd Tuesday) is a “Discussion Meeting” where prints and projected digital images are discussed amongst members of the club. A “Set Subject” is also run at this meeting. (No scoring takes place at these meetings).
Other club events and activities are arranged from time to time including Photoshop workshops, inter club competitions and photo shoots.
All in all, JPS it is a great place to network with fellow photographers and to benefit from the wealth of skills that are present at the club.
